Why Your Salsa Might Be Stinking

Let’s talk hygiene, respect & how to keep the Latin dance floor feeling fuego — not funky.

A vibrant and joyful Latin social scene

There’s nothing like the energy of a Latin social — the music, the movement, the joy of connection. Whether you're dancing salsa, bachata, kizomba, or zouk, socials are where the magic happens. But let’s be real — the experience is only as good as the energy we all bring into the space.

Lately, there’s been some buzz in the community around two major topics: hygiene and respect. And honestly? It’s a conversation worth having.

So let’s break it down…

🧼 1. Hygiene: Love Your Partner, Love Your Shower

Latin dancing is close. Really close. That means hygiene isn’t just personal — it’s communal care. Here are a few gentle but important reminders:

  • Shower before the social — always.

  • Deodorant is your dance partner too.

  • Bring a towel or extra shirt if you tend to sweat a lot — it’s normal, and it's appreciated when dancers manage it.

  • Breath check! Keep mints or gum on hand — your partner will thank you.

  • Wear clean clothes and freshen up in between sets if needed.

Bottom line? Good hygiene helps everyone enjoy the dance. It’s not about judgment — it’s about comfort, safety, and shared respect.

🙏 2. Respect: Every Dance is a Conversation

Dancing with someone is a form of communication. Here's how we keep the convo respectful:

  • Ask nicely, and accept “no” gracefully. Everyone has the right to say yes or no to a dance — no explanations needed.

  • No unsolicited teaching. Socials aren’t practice sessions unless someone asks for feedback.

  • Respect personal space and boundaries. Just because a dance is close doesn’t mean consent is automatic.

  • Be aware of body language and cues. A comfortable partner = a great dance.

❤️ Creating a Community We’re Proud Of

At the end of the day, Latin dance is about connection, joy, and mutual respect. When we show up with clean bodies and kind hearts, we’re creating the kind of space that makes people want to stay, come back, and invite their friends.

Let’s keep our dance floor welcoming, respectful, and full of fuego. 💥
